St. Julian's HSOB RFC 21-24 Trinant RFC

Trinant RFC travelled to St.Julian's HSOB RFC, Newport, for the first league encounter between the two clubs. With excellent conditions for rugby, Trinant were immediately defending against the home side's heavier forwards, with St.Julian's taking full advantage of the possession being presented to them  - scoring three wellm worked tries.

Trinant lost influential scrum half Jason Leadbeater to injury and looked out of this contest, this allowed player coach Dean Pitt to enter the game with great effect, scoring a try. At half time it was 21 points to 5 in the home teamsfavour.

Harsh words and a change of game plan from the coaching team, provided Trinant with an improved approach, using good possession from lineouts to drive back the home team forwards. This change in game plan seemed to drain confidence out of the home team, much to the benefit of the Troggs, with Dean Pitt going over for another two tries, completing a marvellous hatrick, with Jamie Lyons also slotting over the conversions.

Trinant were right back in the game, with the score standing at 21-19, going into the last period of the game.

From a Trinant scrum, outstanding number 8 Phil Leonard, took the hard yards down the blind side, passed to full back Dwaine Smith, who fed veteran player coach Dai Morgan to cross the whitewash for a well worked try.

This finish the game 21-24 in Trinant's favour to earn them a remarkable bonus point win
