Pontllanfraith RFC 12-35 Trinant RFC

Pre season training under new coahes John Way, David Morgan and player coach Dean Pitt as gone really well and the opening away division 3 C game against local rivals Pontllanfraith was eagerly awaited. Trinant were on the score sheet inside the first two minutes, following a good run by Dominic B Jones to set up a ruck from which prop Nicky Bishop forced his way over the line converted by no10 Jamie Lyons 7pts-0. A few wayward kicks by the Troggs rather than keeping the ball in hand cost them chances. A good run by scrum half Jason Leadbeater, putting the ball through several pairs of hands to flanker Dean Pitt to score a good try, converted by Lyons on 20 minutes. The Troggs were now dominating proceedings and another try quickly followed after a good run by lock Adam Rogers, passed to Lyons to put wing Dan Burge in for a try, converted by Lyons,  21pts-0 on 25 minutes. Following his run Trinant lost main lineout jumper Rogers with an hamstring injury. Just before half time, following a ruck, scrum half Leadbeater put no8 Phil Leonard over for a try, taking the ball on the burst to score under the posts, again converted by Lyons to take the score to 28pts-0. The second half was a different story, with injuries, the other source of lineout ball Leonard went off with a shoulder and flanker Pitt, both of which were having good games. The penalty count of ten to one in Pont's favour in the second half enabled Pont to obtain a foothold. Four penalties on the bounce took play from the home line to the Troggs 22, from which they scored in the corner on 70 minutes, 28pts-5. Pont were not finished and added a good 60 metre try converted 28pts-12, with 2 minutes to go. However, Trinant in the final minute, following a good run by centre Jason Lovell put wing Dan Rossitter over in the corner, converted again by Lyons for a 35pts-12 victory. With strong opposition next Saturday its hoped all walking wounded will be fit for this home encounter. Man of the Match went to Andrew Peters.
