Whiteheads RFC 5-20 Trinant RFC

Trinant travelled to Whiteheads in a rearrange division 3 east, their first league game in seven weeks. Trinant had the opening pressure with a lineout 15 metres from the line, but the home team won the ball and broke out of defence, putting in a kick which alluded the full back for the kicker to regain and put his wing away to score 5pts-0 after 5 minutes. Following a penalty, Trinant gained a foothold in the home 22, from the line out, scrum half Jason Leadbeater took play to 5 metres of the line, winning the ruck onto wing Dan Rossitter good run held up the Troggs continued to press and were awarded a penalty for offside which Jamie Lyons converted, 5pts-3 on 15 minutes. The Troggs were now on top and how they didn't had further tries by Leadbeater and flanker Dean Pitt was a mystery. Good handling by the backs put Rossitter on a determined run from 30 metres out only to be bundled into touch just short of the line. From a scrum the Troggs pushed the home side off their own ball enabling no8 Phil Leonard to score the try, converted by Lyons on 25 minutes, to make the score 5-10. Trinant continued to press a charged down kick by lock Adam Rogers was moved through several pairs of hands for lock Andrew Peters to score converted by Lyons 17pts-5 on half time. Whiteheads started the second half in a determined mood. The loss of wing Ryan Price to a yellow card didn't help matters, they presssured the visitors for the first 20 minutes of the half but good defence kept them at bay. When back to full strength the Troggs got back into the game, a charged down kick by lyons nearly resulted in a try for Price, only for the ref to call play back to an injury. Trinant were back on top and wing Chris Meyrick put his opposite number under pressure who conceded a penalty which Lyons kicked on 70 minutes 20pts-5. Prop Gary Russell, the veteran of the pack, put in a good run near the end of the game to show his fitness. The visitors deserved their victory. Man of the match went to flanker Adrian Greening for a good allround performance. On Saturday the Troggs are at Trefil in a rearranged league game.
